At the end of May, the Rhineland Regional Council (Landschaftsverband Rheinland - LVR) organised its annual Encounters Day in the APX. Numerous guests and participants made the eleventh such festival an unforgettable event.
The Encounters Day is Germany's largest family festival for able-bodied and disabled people. Some 28,000 people travelled to the Lower Rhine to join in the sports, games, music and colourful programme and to make a stand for non-discrimination. At the same time, the event is a unique opportunity for associations, institutions and action groups to present their work.
In the year of the Olympic Games and Paralympics, integrative sport drew the crowds to Xanten with magnetic effect. The Rhineland Regional Council's new director Harry K. Voigtsberger drew a thoroughly positive resume of the event entirely in keeping with the Council's motto "Quality for People". Next year's event is to be even more international: "We are planning a European network and intend to cooperate even more closely with our neighbours in Europe," says Harry K. Voigtsberger. Encounters Day 2009 promises to be an interesting event.
A great turnout at the Encounters Day.
