Museum & Restoration

The new LVR-RömerMuseum in the Archaeological Park is now open. Until its opening in August 2008, the museum team had plenty to do coordinating the installation of the exhibition.

Archaeologist Dr. Hans-Joachim Schalles (in the middle) has been Director of the old Regional Museum since 1987. He has conceived the new exhibition on Xanten's Roman history and is currently working with his team on the improvement of this major project.

Archaeologist Dr. Marcus Reuter (second from the right) coordinates the teamwork and cooperation with external specialist firms and makes sure deadlines and cost projections are met.

Archaeologists Dr. Alexandra Busch (on the left) and Dr. Dirk Schmitz (on the right) already helped to develop the museum concept during their postgraduate internships and are now members of the scientific project team. Postgraduate interns Anke Seifert (not shown) and Stefan Schepp (second from the left) complete the museum team.

Thousands of finds are revealed every year by the excavations in the Roman city. Many so-called special finds are restored immediately.

At the APX, two restorers make sure the finds are professionally treated. Petra Becker (on the right) who established the Restoration department in 1995 has been supported by Christine Lincke (on the left) since September 2007.
